It seems evident that all creatures in nature have been endowed with the same natural rights as humans, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Although these may take on different forms among the various species in nature, nonetheless, they are present. All living creatures freely explore their own pursuits and fully decide how and when they will undertake these desired activities. This is the natural state of life until some force such as humans interfere by capturing them to satisfy their own purposes of research or to simply be entertained while relegating them to captivity in a zoo. Suddenly, these creatures no longer determine any aspect of their lives because their freedoms have been revoked and replaced with a predetermined existence courtesy of humans as their keeper. Once in a zoo, they become property to be controlled in any regard its keepers consider expedient. This is vastly different than the freedom provided from nature and it serves as a great illustration of what our Government is effectively accomplishing with us citizens thereby determining our existence. Any incremental control attained from the public will inflate the godlike complex they possess which will ultimately be exercised at their discretion.

Our Government should foster an environment that protects and allows us to enjoy our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to their fullest. Unfortunately, actions speak otherwise; they have instead chosen to become an institution that prefers to govern with a heavy hand. This is being facilitated by the slow, methodical confiscation of our freedoms and liberties which are then used to expand their dominion. Our politicians oppose acknowledging that natural rights exist because recognizing these inalienable rights serve to undermine their coveted agenda of control, instead they prefer to believe that such rights are enacted by legislation thus subject to rescission or modification at will. They would much rather structure a society resembling a metaphorical “zoo” so that our lives can be completely managed and regulated to conform to the will of Government. After all, our politicians believe themselves to be of superior intelligence versus the aggregate, thus undoubtedly concluding that our existence should be administered much like a chimpanzee in a zoo. The important question for our society to resolve is do we favor a dictated existence from our Government that promises the illusion of equal results to everyone, or do we strongly reject it knowing it can not be delivered despite the tremendous cost to our freedom and ultimately our society? The answer will certainly present itself going forward, but so far it appears that “Welcome to the Zoo” seems appropriate.

All around the world today people are increasingly looking to their Government to take care of them, to provide for their existence and secure their futures. This trend has really been gaining steam here in the United States in recent years as we seem all but destined to join the majority of other nations. The question that remains to be answered is whether it is a good idea to emulate these other economic systems despite knowing that America was purposely structured differently, and it resulted in the greatest and most generous nation the world has ever seen. Plus, it has been shown time and again that other systems consistently inhibit their own growth and prosperity. America became the destination of choice for many immigrants from these other nations, yet here we are ready to proclaim failure of our free market system and allow our Government to take a larger piece of our freedom in favor of promised security, and as Ben Franklin said long ago, we will deserve and receive neither.

Many in our nation see the free market as a failure with businesses as the oppressors and Government as the emancipators who will fight for the common man and bring freedom from tyranny. The absurdity is that people are so willing to trade our free market system with businesses that are mostly competent and eager to serve the people for the Government that is extremely incompetent and inefficient at serving anyone but themselves. Corruption occasionally surfaces within business, but it is always present with Government. There are businesses that serve themselves and the most influential of their organization at the expense of people, but the Government absolutely defines self-interest with all its decisions being made accordingly. With all the negative press that business has received, it is easy to forget that the overwhelming majority of them operate very honestly providing jobs and products people desire. They are being judged every day in the market with their products by consumers voting with their dollars. Their number one goal is to satisfy their customers by providing a product we are willing to purchase, and they must deliver that satisfaction or they cease as a going concern. On the other hand, our Government has no such worry. They continually operate in their own interest by systematically increasing their control and providing for their own expansion. Their concern for the people is secondary to that objective since they are comfortable with the knowledge that there are no consequences. Their survival is not dependent on the day to day judgments in the marketplace; they do not even have to provide a service that is beneficial. History shows that our population continues to apathetically reelect incumbents repetitively, thus there is no motivation for them to serve the people honestly over their own interest.

We should give some serious thought to the notion that our Government will provide anything but destruction and poverty. It is better to have more freedom in the hands of many people and businesses as opposed to our Government that we know is corrupt, incompetent and destructive. Businesses do possess power that can trigger corruption at times, but Government has absolute power and it is absolutely corrupt all the time. Why would we want to entrust our future to such an organization when we know its outcome? Having power and control dispersed throughout society will provide a stronger foundation for everyone as opposed to having the Government decide everything for its own benefit and pushing it on us. We need to wake up in this nation and stop waiting for someone else to make life easier for us because that is nothing more than a utopian dream.

Our population seems so engrossed with fighting each other that we are not keeping our eye on the true scoundrel which is our Government that is undermining each and every one of us for their own benefit. This is not a rich versus poor, republican versus democrat, conservative versus liberal, old versus young, business versus individuals, or black versus white. It is about our Government officials caring so much more about retaining their offices and all the power involved that they are willing to sell us down the river to preserve their status. Does anyone really think they have any interest in really solving America’s issues and not just appearing to do so while continuing to make us more dependent on them? Subjecting us to dependence is an effective way of building and retaining power because how else would we ever be able to take care of ourselves if not for our benevolent Government? Why would they not keep taking more of our money in taxes to continue perpetuating this dissipation of our individualism and freedom as long as they continue to benefit with strengthening their stately power? They could care less about any future reckoning from this unsustainable behavior because they will either be long retired or dearly departed by that point, plus “certain” power today is more desirable than any distress of “possible” disaster at some point in the future. There simply is no motivation for them to upset the applecart because it is the eternal spring that supplies the spoils of the nation upon them, and the people can suffer the consequences since they were not the “chosen” ones. Besides, if the nation is suffering, it gives them yet another opportunity to pretend they care enough to fix it for us so they gain even more influence.

America had better awaken to this picture for what it truly is and realize that we are being subordinated in importance to our politician’s self-centeredness. We are a distant thought in their minds, nothing more than an electorate to be manipulated in order to attain and retain political office. Once attained, it is all about them from that point on. This will continue until the day Americans quit bickering among ourselves over our differences and turn our full attention on them to start demanding solutions and accountability. Politicians like nothing more than the voters to be at odds with one another because a divided people is a conquered people, and it gives them openings to begin pointing fingers and propagating blame thus keeping the focus off of their own incompetence and exploitations. If we can not find enough common ground as Americans to come together and focus our energies on the insanity that is our Government, then we had better be prepared for the outcome of that inaction. Our Government has become a cancer that is eating this nation from the inside, and at some point it will severely weaken and overwhelm us. Regardless of how people may classify themselves in our society, we are all going to suffer from a declining nation as our politicians would rather have power and control over a dying nation than no such power over a prosperous one.
