It has become all too easy to blame politicians for the condition of our nation, yet we give very little thought to our complicity as citizens considering we are responsible for who attains and retains the offices of our Government. We avert responsibility in favor of expressing platitudes of political corruption as if that is a new development when money and power are at stake. The truth is that we have become an entitled nation that continues to vote for all the big Government offerings with absolute disregard of any financial repercussions. Endless spending seems to rule the day, thus we continue to obstruct any cuts to our budget despite the knowledge that such levels of profligacy are unsustainable. It is absurd that debates regarding the budget have any credibility if cuts to our recent spending binge are not central to the discussion, but this assessment is easily diminished by pretending that taking more money from less people will solve the problem. It makes no sense logically or mathematically that this will even begin to resolve the problem of our spending addiction, yet this charade persists. It serves merely as a distraction giving the impression that a valid proposal is being presented thereby allowing the spending to continue unabated. The unfortunate reality is that too many Americans have come to believe that Government is the first and last answer to everything rather then the problem itself. The American spirit has been steadily eroded through years of created dependency for the sole purpose of political expediency. Self-reliance and responsibility have long been abandoned and it can only be assumed that this reflects our overall character until it changes by way of the voting booth. Americans need to realize that they are responsible for the condition of the nation; politicians simply take advantage of what the electorate will tolerate. The reason for our deterioration becomes obvious for any citizen willing to accept the responsibility of the truth. Government is a self-serving institution whose role in our lives definitely needs to be reevaluated, for we will certainly be held accountable for our actions and the consequences will follow accordingly.

The public’s mindset right now regarding our fiscal situation is one of anxiety which is being carefully constructed by politicians and the media portraying the absurd notion that without increasing the debt ceiling a default is imminent. There is absolutely nothing further from the truth; in fact it is next to impossible for a default to occur without our Government actively choosing to bring about such default. Regardless of the outcome of the debt ceiling discussions, the Treasury is raising revenue in excess of $2 trillion annually and the interest expense on the debt is about $400 billion. This clearly leaves an excess of about $1.6+ trillion available for other remaining obligations, therefore averting a default takes nothing more than our Government acting responsibly and paying the interest owed before any other disbursements are authorized. It could not be any simpler, the interest should be paid first and then everything else prioritized for the remaining funds with the lower priorities bearing the brunt of any limitations. However, the message being politically orchestrated is that default is to be expected if more debt is not authorized; this can only be true if all other obligations are intentionally prioritized ahead of the interest payments hence creating a default. This deliberately crafted strategy is designed to alarm the public thereby providing the opportunity for manipulating them into acquiescence on the debt ceiling so that the big Government agenda can continue uninterrupted. This is the response chosen by politicians in order to avoid any backlash certain to occur from spending cuts by those that benefitted by such spending. These reductions are going to be painful, but they will definitely not get any easier in the future as the debt level continues higher. If our nation accepts the viewpoint that we are incapable of decreasing spending with $14.5 trillion in debt, how could we possibly believe that it will be more achievable at $17 or $20 trillion? The answer is as obvious as the strategy of shameless propaganda asserting that our Government is unable to prevent a default if they are not allocated more money to waste.

Many people believe that practicing capitalism has failed us in society by bringing hardship upon common people due to the greed of the few that benefited at their expense. This is an economic system that is practiced among citizens and businesses operating in their own interest with the Government intervening through regulation and taxation, but such Government does not practice it directly by planning and determining the economic outcomes. These activities are conducted among citizens in society and they should bear the consequences whether it is the benefits of good decisions or the failure of bad ones. It is well known that capitalism creates excesses that must be occasionally corrected and there are times that some misdeeds do go unpunished. Nonetheless, it is a very efficient system overall because outcomes are directly shouldered by those that initiated the respective activities – or so they should be in a “truly” capitalistic model. Whether capitalism has been honestly practiced is certainly a subject for debate. However, we have seen many businesses fail over the last few years through a process of creative destruction, but new ones should rise from their ashes with new lessons to heed, and this is how it should be if true capitalism is allowed to function as intended.

Aside from businesses failing or restructuring to better compete and provide a better product or service to the public, capitalism certainly is not the cause of cities, states, and nations failing that we are starting to see around the globe including here in the United States. This has been triggered by the destructive debt loads that Governments have burdened their citizens with in order to buy favor, create entitlement, and to control economic outcomes to serve their own purposes. Another way of stating this is Governments encumber their citizens with debt to facilitate their objective of controlling and subjugating them so that bureaucrats can determine the outcomes in society according to their preferences. This practice continues to the point of insolvency thus being unable to pay debt back or borrow more, and this is of no concern to politicians as long as their power and control are maintained in the process. The destruction of once prosperous nations is what we are beginning to witness throughout the world, and it makes one ponder these questions…

If capitalism is responsible for the hardships upon individuals and businesses in society since it is directly practiced by them, then what system is practiced by Governments that are destroying the various cities, states, and nations? What system allows Government to determine what is done in society and how it will be accomplished? What system has Government in direct control of decisions, planning, and the allocation of resources? It is this system that will unleash destruction to such an extent as to impoverish citizens or at least severely lower their living standards. Identifying this detriment should be our greatest concern, and obviously it has nothing to do with capitalism since Governmental entities do not practice such. If people honestly believe capitalism has failed them, then the failure resulting from a Government directed society may just change their views once it is realized that their future has been sold down the river by politicians, and it is being done by promising a false utopia using the system of their preference that begins with an “S” and ends with an “ism.”

It boggles the mind to really think about what our Government has become on the most fundamental level. It has evolved into nothing more than a monetary distribution system that benefits some at the expense of others. It seems obvious to any logical thinking person that its function should be to collect revenue from all citizens earning income in order to provide for the common good of all citizens. Somewhere along the line it began to collect an increasing share of revenue from a decreasing segment of the population in order to provide benefits to its chosen groups. Basically, it takes from some to give to others. The Government is collecting an ever-increasing amount of money to compensate and expand itself first and foremost; then choosing how the remainder will be distributed, thus selecting the winners and losers in society by giving preference to one over another. There is so much talk about redistribution of wealth these days, but that has been going on for years. Any time that benefits are provided away from the actual taxpayers, it is a redistribution of wealth, which is tantamount to theft. This is accomplished through a diminishing taxpayer base that shoulders the burden of paying on behalf of all citizens as well as select groups being given preference by our Government. If taxes are not collected broadly to provide broadly, they simply should not be collected, otherwise redistribution results. That means no favors for any select grouping such as, homeowners and not renters, one state and not another, unions benefitting over nonunion, owners of old cars versus new, older people and not younger, or the poor over the rich etc etc. Subscribing to this modern day theft is to assume that our Government bureaucrats are better at allocating financial resources than we the people, and that being after they take their sizable and expanding share to boot.

The Government has ballooned in recent history simply to perpetuate and execute its objective of redistributing money between citizens while its function should be to provide for the common good of all by collecting from all and nothing more. Any policy that diverges from this sole purpose becomes divisive and creates an atmosphere of animosity and distrust from the ones being leaned on so heavily to pay the toll. Plus, there are always the unintended consequences of any Government action or intervention that usually plants the seeds for some future calamity that imposes its damage on society. Fortunately, the current course is not sustainable and it may not be too long before it all collapses back on itself as the payers become overwhelmed by the payees through the expansion of these redistribution efforts, thus becoming a burden for all once again. It will serve as yet another lesson to be ignored by a future ambitious politician vigorously buying votes of the many by promising the money of the few.

Generally, the exchange centers on justifying the horrendous and destructive agenda of our current Government by pointing to the bad decisions of the previous Administration. These justifications and criticisms are irrelevant and useless since they are focused on the past therefore little attention is being directed to the destructive proposals going on right now. Also, many of the criticisms are universally shared anyway, it may come as a surprise that many conservatives are disenchanted with a host of the previous Administration’s policies as well, thus arguing them are just distracting from the real issues that are threatening our nation today. The partisan banter is analogous to the band playing on the Titanic’s fateful night, it may have been gratifying, but that did nothing to prevent the ship from sinking.

It is very difficult to comprehend how we will navigate our way out of the formidable circumstances we have brought upon ourselves. This is the challenge that each citizen should be concerned with at this time. People can incessantly argue their respective conservative or liberal positions while asserting blame about our predicament all they want, but the bottom line is that significant changes are being considered and implemented right now that will fundamentally affect the future direction of this nation, and we need to focus on these activities. We all need to wake up and pay attention because regardless of ideology, both conservatives and liberals will be going over the cliff by the devastation that is being laid before us. Like it or not, everyone will suffer as the nation declines, and this approaching reality is what should be of concern to each and every one of us at this time. The decline of our nation is being set into motion, and if all we are going to do is squabble about ideology, then we may as well go ahead and strike up the band?

Upon its advent, it will be popularly accepted that only the massive resources of our enormous Government will have the capacity to solve this emergency. They in turn will be more than happy to intervene using our public funds to take command of any remaining industries not already in their domain, and instantly socialism has arrived by default. The Government already controls a large percentage of our economy through the banks, mortgage companies, automotive industry, and they are diligently working to include health care which represents a large segment of our economy. One would have to honestly admit that we are effectively socialistic at that point. How could so much of the American economy be controlled by the public sector and it even be possible to think otherwise? That would obviously be a classic case of denial given that we would not want to admit what we have become as a nation.

It is interesting to note that the more the Government becomes involved, the more likely it will actually cause the downward pressure as private money flees the additional political risk, this results in even more bureaucratic intrusion that virtually ensures an “emergency” develops from the downward spiraling loop created. The stage has been set politically for this occurrence, and even though Americans are growing weary of public solutions to our economic problems, they will unlikely stand in opposition once a severe crisis appears that is perceived catastrophic and beyond the limits of any private solution. The truth is that it is never beyond the scope of private solutions that often call for strict measures to be administered in order to solve the difficulty, it remains to be seen if our public is willing to withstand that unpleasant reality. The choice will have to be made between suffering a severe private market solution that will conclude efficiently and with certainty or a prolonged ineffective effort from our Government at the enormous cost of our ongoing freedom. It is clear that socialism is looming and we are naively embracing it with our apathy believing that it will never really happen, or by turning to it after a sudden instigated emergency that initiates a panic, either way, we are being ushered to that eventual future that seems so coveted by the leaders we continue to elect. This will continue until the day we decide to reject this outcome by exercising our freedom to vote and remove those that covertly support socialism as an improvement. If not, then we should not be surprised at the result.

All around the world today people are increasingly looking to their Government to take care of them, to provide for their existence and secure their futures. This trend has really been gaining steam here in the United States in recent years as we seem all but destined to join the majority of other nations. The question that remains to be answered is whether it is a good idea to emulate these other economic systems despite knowing that America was purposely structured differently, and it resulted in the greatest and most generous nation the world has ever seen. Plus, it has been shown time and again that other systems consistently inhibit their own growth and prosperity. America became the destination of choice for many immigrants from these other nations, yet here we are ready to proclaim failure of our free market system and allow our Government to take a larger piece of our freedom in favor of promised security, and as Ben Franklin said long ago, we will deserve and receive neither.

Many in our nation see the free market as a failure with businesses as the oppressors and Government as the emancipators who will fight for the common man and bring freedom from tyranny. The absurdity is that people are so willing to trade our free market system with businesses that are mostly competent and eager to serve the people for the Government that is extremely incompetent and inefficient at serving anyone but themselves. Corruption occasionally surfaces within business, but it is always present with Government. There are businesses that serve themselves and the most influential of their organization at the expense of people, but the Government absolutely defines self-interest with all its decisions being made accordingly. With all the negative press that business has received, it is easy to forget that the overwhelming majority of them operate very honestly providing jobs and products people desire. They are being judged every day in the market with their products by consumers voting with their dollars. Their number one goal is to satisfy their customers by providing a product we are willing to purchase, and they must deliver that satisfaction or they cease as a going concern. On the other hand, our Government has no such worry. They continually operate in their own interest by systematically increasing their control and providing for their own expansion. Their concern for the people is secondary to that objective since they are comfortable with the knowledge that there are no consequences. Their survival is not dependent on the day to day judgments in the marketplace; they do not even have to provide a service that is beneficial. History shows that our population continues to apathetically reelect incumbents repetitively, thus there is no motivation for them to serve the people honestly over their own interest.

We should give some serious thought to the notion that our Government will provide anything but destruction and poverty. It is better to have more freedom in the hands of many people and businesses as opposed to our Government that we know is corrupt, incompetent and destructive. Businesses do possess power that can trigger corruption at times, but Government has absolute power and it is absolutely corrupt all the time. Why would we want to entrust our future to such an organization when we know its outcome? Having power and control dispersed throughout society will provide a stronger foundation for everyone as opposed to having the Government decide everything for its own benefit and pushing it on us. We need to wake up in this nation and stop waiting for someone else to make life easier for us because that is nothing more than a utopian dream.

The concept of social justice has been around for quite a while now but it seems to have really gained momentum in our society recently. It has come to my attention so often lately that it has me thinking about what exactly is the objective of someone who touts this initiative. If you generally define the expression beginning with the word “social,” it refers to basic human co-existence or interaction among people. The word “justice” is commonly accepted to mean what is right, appropriate or deserved. This becomes realized when an unjust act is remedied and the victim is made whole again. It seems from a justice perspective that a person must be harmed by a specific person or entity, a careless action has been taken that directly impacts another and creates damages. This does not really fit the usage or the reality of the social justice message very well because there are avenues equally available to redress any such grievances that one commits on another. That leads me to consider the often cited ideal of equal opportunity as being the true objective of social justice in our nation, and the champions of this cause would probably agree that this is the central purpose of the agenda. However, this really does not hold up well either because there are too many examples of rags to riches stories from all walks of life from within our borders as well as immigrants from around the world that now make America their home. The availability of opportunity has been the primary distinguishing factor that has driven so many to our shores since our nation’s founding. There is no place on earth where one can realize their aspirations to a higher degree than right here in America and even the rest of the world would unlikely contest that thought. Numerous successes by immigrants who are naturally disadvantaged by language, customs and culture run contrary to any claims that opportunity is not available. Therefore, in the absence of specific wrongs being committed that require actual justice, and observing that opportunity apparently exists for those willing to actually pursue it, one is lead to conclude that neither is the real objective of social justice. The initiative likely has aspirations of a greater prize while still conveying the aforementioned motives as its aim.

The more plausible objective of the social justice movement is the unspoken goal of achieving income redistribution, a concept centered on equal result instead of equal opportunity. The concept of justice is asserted to portray the belief that some citizens among us rightfully deserve the same result as other more prosperous citizens and society has not delivered on that conviction, thus it is seen as an injustice that needs to be remedied. What makes this so attractive is that is requires no responsibility for one’s standing in life, it is too easy to play the victim proclaiming how unfair everything appears while expecting financial resolution under the pretext of justice. Equally disturbing to this thinking are the proponents of this mindset that actually believe this to be legitimate and expect one to compensate another only because they have attained wealth. The results are not perceived to be equal in our society, thus the remedy of reallocation is needed, and this can be accomplished while proclaiming it to be about equal opportunity. If it was really about equal opportunity and not equal result, then why is it not labeled social opportunity or something similar? A question that comes to mind is if all the money was equally redistributed tomorrow, would there still be a social justice movement in search of opportunity? If the answer is no, then ask yourself how long would it be before it resurfaces again. The answers are obvious and easily illustrate the true objective of social justice however malicious and absurd it may be.

The majority of working Americans never have a chance to pay their taxes because they are deducted in advance of their paychecks being received. This is usually the case for everyone except a small percentage of people that are subject to paying estimated taxes through the year or any year-end settlements with the IRS. Being that our Government takes possession of your money prior to its receipt makes you wonder about the true ownership of that money. It is a small distinction to draw that effectively sets the balance of power in the relationship and should make you question who really owns your labor and efforts. Are you really paying your taxes, or is the Government taking what they deem to be their share and giving you what is leftover? It is well conceived on their part to not only position themselves to have a senior claim on your earning potential, but they also divert your mind from your money, thus you end up paying little attention to the tax collection process. The thought here is the classic out of sight out of mind notion that fosters the feeling that you are not really paying, maybe even viewing the money as not belonging to you. In fact, many people cheer when year-end settlements provide a tax refund of what should have been their own money all along. This concept works so well that many view a refund as a gift that falls from the heavens. The true value established is the ability of the Government to slowly ratchet up taxes over the years with hardly a notice because it is done incrementally, and it is spread out over the year to go virtually unnoticed as to its actual amount. Accordingly, taxpayers give little attention to how much is being taken from them and often consider that the money is not really theirs to begin with.

It is often quoted that the average taxpayer has to work full-time well into the month of May each year just to earn the amount of taxes that are taken for that year. It makes you wonder how sensitive people would be to the taxes they are paying if they had to actually work until May 15th each year to pay for governmental services before they were allowed to receive their first penny. My guess is there would have been an uprising long ago concerning how that money is being spent, but painlessly deducting it over the year allows them to incrementally collect more money by masking the full impact, and the ease of doing so only encourages its irresponsible usage. Another thought to focus attention on the actual tax burden being imposed is for taxpayers to receive their full pay and subsequently write a check each month for taxes owed to the IRS, which by the way would never happen because our Government does not trust its citizens to make the payments. Either of these thoughts would really emphasize the actuality of genuinely “paying taxes” with either money or labor, and it would likely motivate people to care more about how that money is being managed while controlling the amount of taxes being collected. The Government surely prefers the current collection process in order to limit any resistance that would be created if taxpayers started becoming more mindful of the actual totality of the tax burden imposed upon them. It is easy to see how our current system has served to facilitate the big Government monstrosity we are dealing with today. The current method of tax collection will very likely remain unchanged due to its effectiveness for the Treasury, but it should certainly make one contemplate the points made herein.

It seems rather astonishing that President Obama has been building an organization of Czars with barely a critical mention of it outside of mild fascination from the public. It is a very suspicious activity in light of the huge Government grab of power and control from us citizens during a time when every issue seems to be an opportunity for bigger Government. Terms such as Socialism, Marxism, Fascism and any other oppressing “ism” you can think of are being used to describe where our nation is headed, regardless of your preferred term it is certain the Government will be getting much bigger at the expense of our individual liberties, and that power is being channeled to favor the Executive branch as evidenced by the Czar network being created. This should be setting alarm bells off throughout our society, but I think the constant barrage of momentous legislation is otherwise monopolizing the nation’s attention. Why, as our Government gets larger and more intrusive, do we have this network of Czars being constructed? What is the purpose or intention of suddenly needing their services unless it is to confiscate more rights from citizens and the other branches of Government to concentrate it within the Executive branch? The Czar building phenomenon is an actuality that clearly betrays any rhetoric from the Administration that claims there is no intention of usurping more control.

Even more surprising than the public not focusing on this issue is that Congress has not forcefully pushed back on this practice. Our political system is set up with a system of checks and balances between the branches as specified in the Constitution. The Czars are comandeering authority to exercise control over the public without having to answer to anyone but the President. Congress, as the people’s representatives, is not exercising any authority to appoint or confirm the Czars nor demand any accountability from them. How do they think this is going to turn out for them in the future as this created platform of consolidating power gets entrenched and ever more powerful? The authority of the Czars will likely start off in a restrained manner, and as time goes by and acceptance becomes the norm, they will slowly ratchet up their influence to the delight of an ascendant President and the chagrin of an undermined Congress and population. This is the nature of a created power base, once installed, it constantly evolves by a steady accretion of power over time. It makes you wonder why Congress would continue to accept what will obviously become a usurpation of their own powers, but so far they are doing exactly that.

What is it exactly that justifies the creation of this Czar network that exists outside of the Constitution and answers to only one person? Is the intention to circumvent the people and their representatives in an attempt to amass political dominance to create more of an autocracy? Can we not assume that regardless of the justification presented it will lead to something that will be an apparatus of power, and how positive could that be for us since it operates outside our normal political system? We need to keep in mind that any power it assumes must either come from another branch of Government or directly from the people, so which of these should be screaming the loudest right now? Is this the first glimpse of a much larger plan yet to be revealed that will forever change our governmental landscape and will not be wholly comprehended for years to come?
